How to measure to change a window
How to take the measures to replace a window?
To properly take the measurements for the replacement of a window, it is first necessary to take into account the type of installation, then accurately and without error take the measurements. Discover on this page all the information to properly carry out your measurement record.
How to measure well?
Take the measurements always at 3 different points (height, middle and bottom). Remember the lowest reading of the 3 so as not to buy a window with dimensions larger than the table.
Example: You have taken the following 3 measurements in width• * in height: 130.2 cm; in the middle: 129.0 cm; at the bottom: 129.5 cm.
You will keep the smallest measurement, that is to say 129.0 cm.

WALL-MOUNTED INSTALLATION
For the installation as an interior wall lamp (with lining), the window is fixed by brackets inside the house on the masonry wall. Furs or lined with insulation, equips the window frame expanding its thickness until reaching that of your insulation.
Take the measurement in width inside the finished painting.
Take the height measurement inside the finished painting.
Measure the total thickness of the insulation, from the masonry wall to the plasterboard, in order to predict the size of the furs to be laid in the thickness of the wall. In the case of a roller shutter in a tunnel trunk, the top tap is shorter and the window is not applied in the upper part in order to let the roller shutter apron pass. This information will be requested from you during the technical point after ordering.
TUNNEL INSTALLATION
It is a question of installing a new window, without an existing frame, or it is a question of replacing an old window, by removing the old frame. The tunnel installation of a window is done in the thickness of the wall.
Take the width measurement inside the table.
Take the height measurement inside the table.
It is strongly advised to reduce the measurements by 5mm peripheral (ie less than 1cm on the width 5mm on the right and 5mm on the left, but for the height we advise you to remove only 5mm because the window is placed on its support so no deduction) to leave a small clearance to facilitate the installation and application of silicone for sealing.
RABBET INSTALLATION
In a rabbet installation, the window rests in the rabbet of the masonry, that is to say the angle provided in the masonry to embed the frame of the window.
Take the measurement at the bottom of the rabbet. For verification, the table side AND rabbet bottom may be requested during the technical point with one of our advisors.
Take the height measurement at the bottom of the rabbet, it materializes the existing gap between the rabbet and the table. For verification, the table side AND rabbet bottom may be requested during the technical point with one of our advisors.
It is strongly advised to reduce the measurements by 5mm peripheral (ie less than 1cm on the width 5mm on the right and 5mm on the left, but for the height we advise you to remove only 5mm because the window is placed on its supports so no deduction) to leave a small clearance to facilitate the installation and application of silicone for sealing.
INSTALLATION IN RENOVATION
The installation in renovation is the installation of a complete window (new frame and sash) on the old frame of an existing window.
Take the measurements at the narrowest of the wooden frame of the existing window, this will be the width of passage.
Take the measurements as close as possible to the wooden frame of the existing window, this will be the passage height.
To carry out this type of installation, it is necessary that the wooden frame of your old window which will be trapped under the new frame of the new window is in good condition, showing no signs of attack by insects, rot or fungi and above all that it is securely fixed to the wall..
